About the role#
The State Controller's Office is hiring a student assistant to support the Government Compensation in California (GCC) Program. This unit focuses on government transparency by collecting and publishing annual compensation data from counties, cities, and special districts. You will assist in maintaining these records and conducting outreach to ensure agency compliance.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain systems for storing local government agency information.
- Research, collect, and analyze GCC data.
- Contact local government agencies to resolve non-compliant or delinquent reports.
- Provide training and guidance to agencies regarding report submissions.
- Prepare workload status reports and present research findings or recommendations to management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student (at least 12 semester/quarter units for undergraduates or 8 for graduate students).
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or Economics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear emails and reports.
- Ability to analyze complex information and solve problems effectively.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle changing priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Knowledge of public administration and experience with deadline-driven project management are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Schedule: Generally up to 24 hours per week during the academic year, with up to 40 hours during breaks. Work occurs between 8 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Compensation: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour.
