About the role#
The Substance and Addiction Prevention Branch is hiring five Graduate Student Assistants to join the Epidemiology and Evaluation Unit. This role supports the State Unintentional Drug Overdose Reporting System (SUDORS) team, which is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You will help with fatal drug-related overdose surveillance by processing sensitive data to better understand the circumstances surrounding these deaths.
What you'll do#
- Participate as a member of the SUDORS team.
- Attend training sessions focused on data abstraction.
- Abstract information from death certificates, coroner reports, toxicology reports, and autopsy reports.
- Enter collected data into the secure cloud-based platform managed by the CDC.
- Perform quality control tasks on data that has already been abstracted.
- Assist with other unit activities as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in Criminal Justice, Economics, Public Health, Nursing, Psychology, or Sociology.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- The ability to work independently and complete tasks accurately by set deadlines.
- Comfort working with sensitive, death-related data.
- Access to a computer, reliable internet, and a private, secure workspace.
Location & details#
- This is a remote position. You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
- Pay ranges from $20.50 to $24.00 per hour.
- This is a part-time, temporary student position.
- Work hours are flexible between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, generally up to 24 hours per week during the academic year.
