    About the role#

    The California State Archives offers a graduate intern program for students pursuing a career in the archival profession. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working alongside professional staff and scholars. We are looking for individuals who are seriously considering a career in this field and can commit to the program for one year.

    What you'll do#

    • Review records transferred from State Government entities to determine if they should be included in the State Archives collections.
    • Create indexes and catalog information for various archival collections.
    • Input data into the collection management system and conduct research searches.
    • Perform basic preservation tasks.
    • Provide reference services to the public, both in-person and remotely.
    • Participate in specific preservation, digitization, or outreach projects as needed.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a graduate student in History, Library Science, or a related field.
    • Completion of at least four-semester units or six-quarter units.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
    • Strong writing and research skills, along with excellent customer service abilities.
    • Ability to pay close attention to detail and work well both independently and with a team.
    • Knowledge of California history and government, plus experience with historical records, is preferred.
    • Completed coursework in information science or history is preferred.

    Location & details#

    • This is an on-site position located in Sacramento, California.
    • Work is part-time and temporary, with flexible scheduling available Monday through Friday between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
    • You must be able to commit to at least one shift per week between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
    • Compensation ranges from $21.49 to $30.57 per hour.
