About the role#
United Veterinary Care hosts veterinary students for clinical externships at Firehouse Animal Health Center in Austin, Texas. This program allows you to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world hospital setting. You will work with a team focused on preventative medicine, client communication, and patient care. Students are integrated into the hospital team to gain experience and confidence in clinical skills.
What you'll do#
You will work under the supervision of experienced veterinarians and support staff. Your daily activities include:
- Participating in case discussions and collaborative problem-solving.
- Providing hands-on patient care.
- Engaging in surgical cases and dental procedures.
- Assisting with medical appointments and emergency care.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
- You must provide proof of professional liability insurance.
- Priority is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit.

- Location: Austin, Texas.
- This is an on-site, full-time externship.
- Scheduling is on a rolling basis.
- This position is paid, with stipends available to offset travel and lodging costs where permitted by your school.
