About the role#
This externship offers clinical-year veterinary students the chance to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world hospital setting. You will join the team at Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services in Swansea, Massachusetts. The program is designed for 3rd and 4th year students at AVMA-accredited schools. You will work with experienced veterinarians and nursing staff to gain clinical confidence and experience across general practice, emergency, and specialty settings.
What you'll do#
- Participate in case discussions and collaborative problem-solving.
- Provide hands-on patient care in emergency, specialty, and general practice settings.
- Assist in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, and sick patient workups.
- Discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian to verify exam findings and treatment plans.
- Work alongside teams in internal medicine, radiation oncology, medical oncology, and critical care.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
- Priority is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
