About the role#
This externship at Pets and Vets as Partners offers veterinary students a clinical experience in a full-service general practice setting. You will work in West Lafayette, Indiana, to apply classroom knowledge to real-world patient care. We focus on tailoring the rotation to your specific professional goals. Students are encouraged to share their priorities at the start of the program so we can align the experience with your needs.
What you'll do#
- Actively participate in medical cases, including sick patient workups and routine appointments.
- Gain hands-on patient care experience under the supervision of an experienced veterinarian.
- Join the team for surgical cases, dental procedures, and emergency care.
- Discuss cases with your supervising veterinarian to verify exam findings and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with support staff to provide care for dogs and cats.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school, with priority given to clinical-year students.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Interest in gaining experience in areas such as ultrasound, soft tissue surgery, and preventative care.
