About the role#
The Illusion Maker Surface Development Intern joins the Walt Disney Imagineering team to help create early-stage mechanical and electrical systems. This role focuses on the hands-on fabrication and assembly of prototypes, special effects, and robotic figures for theme parks and attractions. You will work directly with designers and team leaders to turn concepts into physical reality.
What you'll do#
- Fabricate and assemble complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Support designers during the fabrication of illusions and special effects.
- Research standard parts, materials, and catalogue items for project needs.
- Build quick mockups and iterate on designs.
- Assist with installation and integration tasks as directed.
- Participate in team brainstorming and problem-solving sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Junior or higher at an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Design.
- Basic carpentry knowledge.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, wiring lists, and connector schedules.
- Basic understanding of 3D printing technologies, materials, and associated modeling software.
- Ability to manage time effectively while working on multiple projects.
