About the role#
The Toro Company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 program. This full-time, on-site internship runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027. You will work from our headquarters in Bloomington, Minnesota.
What you'll do#
- Conceptualize and design products to meet business and customer requirements.
- Use 3D CAD software, specifically Creo, for product development.
- Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to hit cost, timing, and performance targets.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams on domestic and international projects.
- Create technical documentation, including layouts, drawings, assembly instructions, and analysis reports.
- Research and recommend materials and manufacturing processes.
- Develop test plans to validate designs for durability, quality, safety, and manufacturability.
- Analyze designs using calculations, simulations, and testing methods.
- Support patent activities and liability avoidance in coordination with the Legal department.
- Conduct feasibility studies to ideate new designs.
- Manage Engineering Change Orders, bills of materials, and assembly drawings.
- Coordinate with vendors and assembly plants to support production.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program for Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience with mechanical drafting and design.
- Proficiency in design software such as CREO ProE, Windchill, or equivalent FEA and CFD tools.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes like injection molding, 3D printing, metal fabrication, welding, and machining.
- Technical ability in the mathematical analysis of physical systems and mechanics.
- Capability to draft test protocols and communicate effectively with test engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with ERP systems like SAP is a plus.
- Knowledge of battery technologies, robotics, automation, or electric power systems is preferred.
