About the role#
The Analysis Engineering team uses numerical simulation to assess system performance against safety and performance requirements. You will guide product design using engineering fundamentals and sophisticated numerical models. This work helps the broader engineering team accelerate development by reducing the need for physical prototypes.
What you'll do#
- Analyze crash loadcases using structural nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
- Assess strength, stiffness, modal response, and fatigue life for static and dynamic events.
- Design and execute vibration and shock durability tests on vehicle sub-systems.
- Operate electrodynamic shaker tables and process real-world proving ground data.
- Design test fixtures using 3D CAD software.
- Correlate physical measurements with simulation models to improve designs.
- Simulate mechanical and thermal stressors on battery cells and packs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical, Civil, or Materials Engineering.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, dynamics, vibrations, and fatigue.
- Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics, thermal modeling, multiphase flows, and heat transfer.
- Background in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, combustion, and phase change processes.
- Experience with HV battery design, thermal management, and battery safety systems.
- Proficiency with FEA tools like LS-Dyna, Abaqus, or Ansys.
- Experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS-FLUENT, STAR CCM+, or COMSOL.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship.
- Locations include Fremont and Palo Alto, California.
- The term runs from Winter 2027 through Spring 2027, starting in January.
- A minimum commitment of 12 weeks is required.
- This position is paid.
