About the role#
As a Powertrain Manufacturing Automation Controls Engineering intern, you will work with a controls engineer to design and implement machine functionality for production lines. You will help build the equipment used to manufacture battery packs, drive units, and energy products. This is a full-time, on-site internship for students currently enrolled in an academic program.
What you'll do#
- Program PLCs using ladder logic and structured text with Siemens and Beckhoff systems.
- Create operator touchscreen interfaces using WinCC, Ignition, and TwinCAT HMI.
- Design industrial electrical panels, field wiring, and machine safety circuits via ePLAN and AutoCAD.
- Program machinery for tasks such as pick-and-place, fastening, dispensing, and conveyance.
- Interface machinery with MES and report production results to quality databases.
- Program vision cameras for inspection and 2D or 3D machinery guidance using Cognex and Keyence.
- Program and interface with industrial 6-axis robots from Fanuc and Kuka.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Programming proficiency in PLC or industrial controllers using ladder logic and structured text.
- Hands-on experience with wiring, assembling, troubleshooting, and fixing electro-mechanical devices.
- Familiarity with common hand tools and diagnostic equipment like multimeters.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Availability to work extended hours as needed.
Location & details#
- Locations: Sparks, NV; Reno, NV; Fremont, CA; Austin, TX.
- Term: Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship with benefits.
