About the role#
This is a part-time Laboratory Student Extern position at Piedmont Medical Network in Rock Hill, South Carolina. You will work under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Charge Tech, or Section Supervisor to gain practical experience in a clinical setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests on patient specimens following established policies.
- Process and perform testing in laboratory sections where you have successfully completed your clinical rotation.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Collect patient specimens, such as blood, and transport them to the laboratory.
- Analyze test results and relay findings to physicians and other authorized personnel.
- Review and report laboratory results.
- Maintain compliance with lab safety, OSHA accreditation, and regulatory agency requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an NCCLS-accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Completion of all pre-clinical, core medical laboratory sciences.
- Current Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
