About the role#
The Registrar Intern supports the permanent collection and exhibition management teams at the Studio Museum in Harlem. This position provides insight into professional museum operations through hands-on tasks and collaboration with staff. The internship runs from January 11, 2027, to April 16, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Registrars and Collections Database Manager with preparations for upcoming exhibitions.
- Conduct inventory of the permanent collection.
- Perform condition reporting on artworks.
- Digitize acquisition files and perform database cleanup.
- Manage various permanent collection projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- A major or minor in museum studies or a related field.
- Strong interest in fine art registration and cataloging.
- Proficiency with databases and solid research skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with the museum's historical collecting focus.
- Ability to work independently and communicate progress effectively.
- Comfort working in a chilled, windowless storage environment.
Location & details#
- This role is based in New York, New York.
- The position requires 20 hours per week during the workweek, Monday through Friday.
- Interns must work on-site three days per week, with Tuesdays being mandatory.
- This is a paid internship with a stipend of $5,040.
