About the role#
Momentive is seeking an intern for our silicone release coatings and pressure-sensitive adhesives product development group. You will work hands-on as a scientist in an R&D chemistry lab to help develop new, sustainable products for the adhesives market. You will work under the supervision of an experienced chemist, with opportunities to work independently as your skills grow.
What you'll do#
- Embrace a safety-first mindset and participate in safety reviews.
- Perform all activities in compliance with safety and chemical hygiene policies.
- Collaborate with scientists to interpret data, find trends, identify technical problems, and propose solutions.
- Plan and execute chemical reactions at scales ranging from 10g to 5000g.
- Formulate high-performance silicone adhesives or release coatings.
- Measure the properties and performance of new materials and formulations.
- Generate accurate test data and present your findings to the team.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, polymer science, or life sciences.
- Completion of at least two years of study in a chemistry-focused program before May 2027.
- Completion of organic chemistry lecture and lab courses before May 2027.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks between May and August 2027.
- A desire to perform hands-on work in a chemical laboratory.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, goggles, lab coat, steel-toe boots, and nitrile gloves, for up to 8 hours per day.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for recording, analyzing, and plotting data.
- Enrollment in a program for at least one semester following the internship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site at our R&D laboratories in Waterford, New York.
- The term is Summer 2027.
