About the role#
This internship focuses on the research, development, and validation of test methods for rubber compounds. You will work with our lab equipment to establish repeatable procedures for compound characterization. This role is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct a literature and industry-standard review to identify effective testing techniques.
- Evaluate our current lab instrumentation to select approaches that fit our existing capabilities.
- Design and build step-by-step testing procedures, including sample preparation, test parameters, and data workflows.
- Run experiments to establish repeatability, reproducibility, and sensitivity of your methods.
- Identify sources of variability and define acceptable operating ranges.
- Draft clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain detailed documentation.
- Present your findings and progress to the technical team and provide guidance for routine lab implementation.
- Perform all work in full compliance with lab safety and EHS requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
- An anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or Spring 2028.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to work on-site 40 hours per week.
- Hands-on wet-lab and instrumentation experience.
- Proficiency with Excel and a statistics tool for curve fitting, regression, and variability analysis.
- Strong adherence to lab safety and EHS protocols.
- Ability to keep clear, reproducible records and present results in English.
- A method development mindset and a reliable method of transportation to the lab.

- Compensation: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour.
