About the role#
The Student Attendance Specialist ensures that school-age children attend school regularly. This role involves investigating the causes of unexcused or excessive absences, communicating with families to solve problems, and developing strategies to improve student engagement. You will coordinate attendance efforts, monitor adherence to school policies, and represent the school in truancy-related matters as needed.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate school-wide attendance efforts and absenteeism prevention programming.
- Communicate with families via email, phone, and automated notices to address attendance concerns.
- Develop and implement educational workshops regarding absenteeism for staff and families.
- Produce attendance and truancy reports for school, county, and state requirements.
- Collaborate with teachers and the Student Support Team to create individualized action plans for students.
- Ensure compliance with state guidelines regarding student attendance, progress, and system logins.
- Attend truancy meetings with school administrators and assist with court-related cases.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Two years of experience in truancy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of state school attendance laws and court procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to pass a required background check.
- Preferred majors include Psychology, Human Resources, Sociology, or Criminal Justice.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, remote position based in North Carolina.
- Candidates must reside in North Carolina.
- The role requires the ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time.
