About the role#
The Student Attendance Specialist coordinates school-wide attendance efforts and absenteeism prevention at the North Carolina Virtual Academy. This role focuses on educating families on the importance of regular attendance and intervening to address the root causes of absenteeism. You will work closely with teachers, administrators, and families to support student engagement and ensure compliance with state attendance laws.
What you'll do#
- Investigate the causes of unexcused or excessive student absences.
- Communicate with families to provide problem-solving support and develop individualized action plans.
- Produce attendance and truancy reports for the school, county, and state.
- Monitor student adherence to attendance policies and issue warnings when necessary.
- Develop and implement educational workshops regarding absenteeism for staff and families.
- Assist with truancy meetings and represent the school in related proceedings.
- Collaborate with the Student Support Team to connect students with necessary service agencies.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- Two years of experience in truancy or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of state school attendance laws and court procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to pass a required background check.
- Preferred fields of study include Psychology, Human Resources, Sociology, or Criminal Justice.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, remote position based in North Carolina.
- Candidates must reside in North Carolina.
- The role may require travel up to 20% of the time.
