About the role#
Stantec is seeking a Mechanical Engineering student to join our Buildings group in Whitehorse for the Fall 2026 term. This is a full-time, paid internship that provides hands-on experience working alongside experienced practitioners on building projects. You will contribute to the design process and gain practical skills in a professional environment.
What you'll do#
- Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, and details from conceptual design through construction.
- Create mechanical designs and drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Assist in the design of building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
- Review equipment selections and perform preliminary engineering calculations.
- Ensure the quality of project deliverables and follow departmental drafting standards.
- Review contractor submittals and perform field surveys for site reviews and as-recorded drawings.
What you'll need#
- Currently working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering at a Canadian university.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD software.
- Understanding of building mechanical systems and construction industry experience.
- Knowledge of National and Alberta Building Codes, including plumbing, fire, and energy codes.
- Familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE, and NFPA.
- Strong communication skills, a team-oriented approach, and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to pass a Canadian government security clearance.
