Intern Architect

About the role#

Stantec is seeking an Intern Architect to join our Buildings Practice in Edmonton for Summer 2026. This full-time, on-site role offers the opportunity to work across all stages of architectural design, from initial conceptual sketches and massing models to construction site visits. You will work under the direct mentorship of Registered Architects in a collaborative studio environment.

What you'll do#

• Support project teams in the development of architectural design documentation.
• Utilize BIM technologies to develop three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
• Prepare and revise documentation across various architectural phases, including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, sections, and details.
• Implement sustainable design principles into building designs and their surrounding environments.
• Assist with site analysis, research of concepts, benchmarks, typology, and precedents.
• Participate in design critiques, interpret building codes, and assist with contract administration tasks such as reviewing shop drawings and responding to RFIs.

What you'll need#

• A Masters degree in Architecture (M.Arch).
• Current registration as an Intern Architect with the Alberta Association of Architects, or eligibility to obtain such registration.
• A minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience in the architecture industry.
• A basic understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency in producing presentation renderings, diagrams, and massing models.
• Knowledge of building construction systems, materials, and industry standards.
• Technical proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino, Revit, Enscape or Lumion, and Microsoft Office.
