Structural Engineering Intern - Transportation

About the role#

Stantec is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for the Fall 2026 term to join our transportation team in New York City. You will work alongside experienced practitioners on infrastructure design projects, including bridges, commuter rail, and subway stations. This role provides hands-on experience supporting structural engineering projects in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary office environment.

What you'll do#

• Assist engineers in the preparation of contract documents and reports.
• Perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD).
• Conduct quantity take-offs and simple structural calculations.
• Review and check drawings and calculations for accuracy.
• Participate in field inspections, which may involve exposure to outdoor elements.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program for Civil Engineering with good academic standing.
• Prior exposure to CAD design programs, specifically AutoCAD or MicroStation.
• Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn new skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Effective communication skills, including verbal, business writing, and presentation abilities.
• Experience with Revit and/or OpenBridge is preferred.
