About the role#
As an Ultrasound Student Intern, you will support the daily workflow of the department at the Warren Campus. This role involves assisting sonographers with patient care, room preparation, and administrative tasks. You will gain exposure to clinical environments while working under direct supervision at all times. Please note that you will not perform sonographic exams independently.
What you'll do#
- Identify patients and verify the appropriate exam or modality.
- Assist sonographers in setting up for procedures and examinations.
- Prepare patients for exams and obtain their medical history.
- Maintain the cleanliness of ultrasound rooms, beds, and equipment after each patient.
- Adhere to hand washing, wound care, and infection control policies.
- Manage department administrative tasks, including answering phones, requesting prior reports, and scheduling appointments.
- Assist staff with invasive procedures by setting up trays using sterile techniques.
- Transport patients, supplies, and laboratory samples.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials, such as Trophon chemicals or formalin, following safety protocols.
- Ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are stocked and ready for use.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a first or second year student in an ARDMS CAHEP accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
- Current CPR certification.
- Prior experience using computers.
- Ability to stand or walk for up to 8 hours per shift.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull patients weighing up to 300 pounds with assistance.
