About the role#
St. Luke's University Health Network offers a full-time, paid Acute Care (Med Surg) Internship for graduate nurses and experienced RNs transitioning into acute care settings. This competency-based program is designed to bridge the gap between preparation and practice, supporting the transition from novice to advanced beginner. Interns participate in a progressive arrangement of seminars, workshops, supervised hands-on training, and clinical simulations under the guidance of a dedicated education team and clinical preceptors.
What you'll do#
- Perform in-depth, systematic assessments of all assigned patients.
- Formulate collaborative, individualized plans of care and identify expected patient outcomes using the nursing process.
- Prioritize patient care while utilizing available resources in cooperation with the multidisciplinary team.
- Function as a professional role model and provide guidance to co-workers.
- Model the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in all customer interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality of all materials and ensure the proper release of information.
What you'll need#
- Current Registered Nurse license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, or a graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Temporary Practice Permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- Nursing students with prospective graduation dates who will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX and obtain licensure before the internship start date.
- Experienced RNs who have not worked in an acute care setting or have less than one year of experience in that setting.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including standing for up to 10 hours, lifting up to 75 lbs, and transporting patients weighing up to 500 lbs.

- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (36 or 40 hours per week), with holiday and weekend requirements per unit policy.
- Locations: Opportunities are available at multiple campuses, including Allentown, Bethlehem, Coaldale, Easton, Lehighton, Orwigsburg, Quakertown, Sellersville, and Stroudsburg.
