About the role#
The Nurse Extern position at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital provides clinical training for nursing students. This role serves as a transition toward a graduate nurse position and the Graduate Nurse Residency program. You will work under the guidance of a preceptor to apply classroom knowledge in a clinical setting.
What you'll do#
- Perform patient care tasks based on skills you have proven competent in during nursing school.
- Monitor vital signs and observe patient behavior for signs of progress or deterioration.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, bathing, and ambulating.
- Carry out clinical procedures such as dressing changes, ostomy care, and catheter care.
- Manage patient intake and output records and collect biological specimens.
- Stock and maintain unit supplies and equipment.
- Communicate patient needs and condition changes to the licensed nursing staff.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing.
- Completion of a fundamentals of nursing course and your first clinical rotation.
- A graduation date within 18 months.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification.
Location & details#
- Location: Mount Vernon, Illinois.
- Commitment: Minimum of 24 hours over four weeks with flexible scheduling.
- Compensation: $18.00 per hour.
- Work modality: On-site.
