About the role#
This internship provides experience working with diverse patient populations while you build the professional skills required for a career in social work. You will learn through a model of observation, demonstration, and ongoing feedback while under the supervision of a licensed social worker. The program requires a commitment of 2 to 3 days per week, typically between 8am and 4pm.
What you'll do#
- Support child, adolescent, or adult service lines by providing social work services to an assigned caseload.
- Manage a caseload of 2 to 4 patients while supporting their treatment goals and discharge plans.
- Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments for your patients.
- Meet individually with patients, their families, and significant others to monitor and evaluate progress.
- Facilitate clinical groups 1 to 2 times each week.
- Communicate patient care updates to your treatment team.
- Engage in self-directed learning and actively seek feedback to support your professional growth.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 2nd year or advanced standing MSW student.
- Enrollment at a school that holds a current affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and demonstrate self-motivation.
- Strong time management and clear oral and written communication skills.
- Patience and compassion when working with individuals who have mental illnesses.
