About the role#
This internship provides experience working with diverse patient populations while you develop the skills needed to become a social worker. You will work under the supervision of a licensed social worker and learn through observation, demonstration, and feedback. The program emphasizes self-reflection and peer critique to support your professional growth.
What you'll do#
- Serve patients on child and adolescent or adult service lines.
- Manage a caseload of 2-4 patients.
- Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
- Meet individually with patients to support treatment goals and discharge plans.
- Meet with families or significant others to monitor progress.
- Conduct clinical groups 1-2 times a week.
- Communicate patient care details to your treatment team.
- Engage in self-directed learning and seek out feedback.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a 2nd year or advanced standing student.
- Effective time management and communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a team.
- Self-motivation and a willingness to learn from all experiences.
- Patience and compassion when working with individuals who have mental illnesses.
Location & details#
- Location: Towson, Maryland.
- Schedule: 2-3 days a week, 8am - 4pm, based on your program requirements.
- This is a paid, part-time position.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until July 31, 2026.
- You must coordinate with your university field placement department to ensure an affiliation agreement exists before applying.
