About the role#
Sheppard Pratt offers a fieldwork internship for Master's level students in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work. This position is located in Rockville, Maryland. It is a part-time, paid role with a rolling start date. You will work on-site for three days per week, typically from 9am to 3pm, though schedules are flexible to meet school requirements. Practicum students typically complete two 5-hour days per week.
What you'll do#
- Co-lead group therapy sessions alongside a licensed social worker or professional counselor.
- Manage an assigned caseload and provide individual counseling.
- Offer support and practice de-escalation skills in the moment as needed.
- Participate in weekly clinical supervision provided by an on-site LCSW-C.
What you'll need#
- You must be an advanced year student in a Master's of Social Work or Master's of Mental Health Counseling program.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A willingness to take initiative and use supervision to improve your professional development.
- Patience, compassion, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Motivation to learn in a busy environment.
