About the role#
This internship provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience in public safety and security operations within a behavioral healthcare system. Interns support departmental leadership with administrative, analytical, and operational initiatives. You will gain exposure to security data collection, reporting, risk assessment, and program evaluation while learning how public safety services support inpatient and outpatient populations, employees, and visitors.
What you'll do#
- Collect, analyze, and report on security-related data to identify trends and support decision-making.
- Support the completion, documentation, and tracking of security risk assessments and vulnerability analyses.
- Assist with administrative and operational processes for security technology platforms, including electronic access control and video surveillance.
- Maintain and update records, dashboards, and metrics used to monitor departmental performance.
- Participate in departmental meetings, compliance reviews, audits, and process improvement activities.
- Conduct research to support policy development and program evaluation.
- Collaborate with staff to support a secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Criminology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in corporate security, public safety, risk management, healthcare security, or law enforcement.
- Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to successfully complete all required onboarding, including background and medical screenings.

- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
- Note: Candidates must attend a university with an active affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt.
