About the role#
The Housing Initiative Program (HIP) assists chronically mentally ill residents of Montgomery County in sustaining or finding housing to prevent homelessness. This internship provides hands-on experience in case management and social support services under the mentorship of a veteran social worker. Interns participate in formal training sessions and receive both individual and group supervision throughout the academic year.
What you'll do#
- Assist the supervising social worker with daily case management tasks.
- Provide supportive counseling and guidance to adult clients regarding housing.
- Complete documentation to monitor client wellbeing and the receipt of necessary services.
- Engage in activities related to homeless outreach, resource location, and care coordination.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the internship phase of a BSW program or the first year of an MSW program.
- An understanding of social work principles and practices.
- Ability to provide supportive counseling to clients.
- Proficiency in documenting client wellbeing and service delivery.
Location & details#
- Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland.
- Term: Fall 2026 through Winter 2027.
- Commitment: 16 to 20 hours per week, with specific days and times negotiated with the program director.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
