About the role#
This internship provides clinical fieldwork experience for Occupational Therapy (OT) and Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students within an adolescent Residential Treatment Center. The program follows an adult learning model that emphasizes self-reflection, group supervision, and peer critique to support professional development. Students will work with a challenging patient population and engage in both on-site and remote supervision.
What you'll do#
- Provide support during OT/OTA fieldwork rotations.
- Engage in self-directed learning and independently seek out feedback.
- Participate in group supervision sessions with clinical instructors and faculty.
- Utilize video conferencing to coordinate with university faculty.
- Practice clinical reasoning and apply evidence-based practice and group theory.
- Educate staff, clients, and caregivers using established teaching and learning concepts.
- Complete self-evaluations and participate in peer critique sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at an accredited Occupational Therapy institution with an existing contract with Sheppard Pratt.
- OT students must be at the Master’s or Doctoral degree level.
- OTA students must be at the Associates degree level.
- A strong foundation in child and adolescent mental health theory.
- Knowledge of OT theory, evidence-based practice, and group theory.
- Ability to demonstrate flexible thinking, adaptability, patience, and compassion.
Location & details#
- Location: Towson, Maryland.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Duration for OT students: 12 weeks beginning in January.
- Duration for OTA students: 8 weeks beginning in January.
- Start dates are flexible.
