About the role#
Sheppard Pratt offers Summer 2026 fieldwork internships for Occupational Therapy (OT) and Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students in an inpatient hospital setting. This is a paid, full-time, on-site opportunity located in Maryland. OT rotations span 12 weeks, while OTA rotations span 8 weeks. Both programs require a 40-hour weekly commitment, with flexible start dates beginning in June.
What you'll do#
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide group and individual occupational therapy services. Daily responsibilities include facilitating 2-3 OT groups, conducting one-on-one sessions, and performing assessments as appropriate. You will receive 1:1 supervision from a licensed occupational therapist on-site. Success in this role requires self-directed learning, the ability to independently seek feedback, and a high degree of adaptability. You must approach all experiences with a readiness to learn and demonstrate patience and compassion when working with the patient population.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Occupational Therapy institution.
- OT students must be at the Master’s or Doctoral level; OTA students must be at the Associates level.
- Enrollment at an academic institution that holds an existing contract with Sheppard Pratt.
- A strong foundation in child and adolescent mental health theory, OT theory and practice, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based practice.
- Knowledge of group theory and application, as well as teaching concepts related to staff, client, and caregiver education.
