Internship (Hospital Inpatient-Towson) 2026-2027 Social Work BSW Fieldwork

About the role#

This BSW fieldwork internship offers experience working with diverse patient populations across child, adolescent, and adult service lines. Interns work under the supervision of a licensed social worker, utilizing observation, demonstration, and ongoing feedback to support professional development. This position requires coordination with university field placement departments and is only available to students from schools with an existing affiliation agreement with Sheppard Pratt.

What you'll do#

• Report to the unit 2 days per week.
• Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
• Communicate with patients' families, guardians, and internal or external treatment team members.
• Assist with discharge planning.
• Conduct clinical groups 1 to 2 times per week.
• Engage in self-reflection, self-evaluation, and peer critique to advance professional growth.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program such as Psychology, Sociology, or Human Resources.
• Effective time management and efficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team while maintaining self-motivation.
• Willingness to work with a range of patient populations and demonstrate patience and compassion when supporting those with mental illnesses.
