About the role#
This co-op position offers an opportunity to join an industrial process chemistry group for a 6-month term. You will work on route scouting and process development for drug substances currently in clinical development. You will gain hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, analytical techniques, and the broader drug development process while working alongside experienced mentors.
What you'll do#
- Design and optimize synthetic pathways for drug substances.
- Plan and execute experiments to improve reaction, purification, and isolation unit operations.
- Use chemistry tools such as flow chemistry, biocatalysis, and high-throughput experimentation to develop commercial processes.
- Apply green chemistry principles to research programs.
- Perform structural characterization using analytical techniques like NMR and LC-MS.
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebooks and document experimental procedures.
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional groups.
- Follow HSE guidelines to ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in Chemistry or a related field at an accredited university.
- Permanent authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, on-site in Cambridge.
- Enrollment in an accredited university for the entire duration of the co-op.
- Experience with data-driven process troubleshooting and analytical characterization.
- Interest in applying advanced technologies like AI/ML tools and computational chemistry to process innovation.
