About the role#
Group Risk Management - Balance Sheet and Liquidity Risk provides second line oversight of balance sheet and liquidity risks. As an intern, you will work on the data engineering behind risk reporting and analytics. You will support the transformation of risk practices by building data pipelines, scripting away manual processes, and applying AI tooling to tasks that have traditionally been done by hand.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest and consolidate ALM risk data from multiple sources.
- Engineer validation logic in SQL and Python to reconcile risk data against source systems and identify discrepancies.
- Convert ad-hoc checks into automated, rule-driven data quality processes with clear reporting.
- Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate pipeline development, validation, and documentation.
- Migrate recurring data and reporting jobs to a scheduler to enable automated execution.
- Monitor pipeline runs, resolve failures, and investigate data issues.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at a Canadian post-secondary institution in computer science, data science, financial engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Exposure to ETL/ELT concepts and data transformation logic.
- Proficiency with Python for data manipulation, pipeline scripting, and automation.
- Experience with SQL and working knowledge of relational databases.
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
Location & details#
- This is a 4-month internship for Winter 2027, running from January 2027 to April 2027.
- The role is based in Toronto, Ontario.
- Work arrangements include hybrid, on-site, and remote options, to be discussed with the hiring manager.
- Candidates must be located within Ontario for the duration of the work term.
- This position is full-time and paid.
