About the role#
RBC Financial Crimes works to protect the bank and its clients from risks such as money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions evasion. This internship program offers exposure to the Case Management function, which assesses and reports on potential financial crime risks. You will join one of three specialized teams: the Canadian AML Alert Analysis Team (CAMLAAT), the AML Investigation Support Team (AMLIS), or the Global Adverse Media (GAM) team. This is an 8-month, full-time, paid internship running from January 2027 to August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support risk-based reviews of Transaction Monitoring and Unusual Transaction Report alerts.
- Conduct end-to-end investigations from case referral review to the filing of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) to FINTRAC.
- Analyze negative news and adverse events through a financial crime risk lens.
- Participate in team training sessions to build knowledge of AML regulations and investigative best practices.
- Collaborate with team members on ongoing AML projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Use internal systems and open-source research to gather information and support investigative decisions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus in Finance, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or Economics.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A creative and analytical mindset with a self-driven approach to problem-solving.
- Demonstrated leadership acumen.
- Ability to interpret news events, conduct effective research, and exercise sound judgment.

- This position is based on-site in Toronto, Ontario, or Halifax, Nova Scotia.
- This is a full-time, 8-month internship term starting in January 2027.
