About the role#
This is a full-time Software Engineering Co-op position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. You will work on-site Monday through Friday, supporting the development of flight software for commercial and military platforms. This role spans the Winter, Spring, and Summer 2027 terms, and students are expected to take a semester off from coursework to participate.
What you'll do#
- Develop and optimize embedded flight software for safety-critical systems.
- Write high-performance, deterministic code for embedded environments.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, AI/ML specialists, and software engineers to deliver integrated avionics solutions.
- Implement and support AI-assisted onboard features, including sensor fusion, anomaly detection, and autonomous control logic.
- Perform debugging and validation tasks using simulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
- Maintain compliance with aviation safety standards, such as DO-178, and follow secure coding and cyber-resilience practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Advanced STEM degree program, continuing through the end of the co-op.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the session.
- Proficiency in high-level programming languages including C, C++, or Python.
- Familiarity with Git, DevOps practices, and AI development tools.
- Prior experience through an RTX internship, co-op, or other work.
