About the role#
POLITICO is looking for a reporting intern to join our team in Sacramento for the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time position focused on covering the state legislative session and the governor. You will work directly with our California Playbook team to produce daily content and report on breaking news in and around the State Capitol.
What you'll do#
- Write and produce the daily California Playbook newsletter.
- Research, report, write, edit, and aggregate news content.
- Cover spot news regarding policy and politics in the State Capitol.
- Report from the field as needed.
- Work alongside a team covering California policy for both in-state and national audiences.
What you'll need#
- Strong foundational reporting and writing skills.
- Excellent news judgment and the ability to work quickly under deadlines.
- An entrepreneurial mindset.
- A passion for politics and a desire to learn about California government.
- Availability to work early mornings or late evenings.
- Proven experience in a newsroom, with at least one prior professional media internship or job preferred.

- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January through May).
- Employment: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $23 per hour.
