About the role#
POET is hiring a Process Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This is a full-time, on-site position based at our corporate headquarters in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. You will work directly with our Process Engineering team to support the design, implementation, and specification of plant process systems. Expect to balance time between office work and on-site visits to our bioprocessing facilities.
What you'll do#
- Assist with process designs, including block flow, process flow, and P&ID diagrams.
- Perform material and energy balances and help specify equipment.
- Complete data analysis of process information.
- Support on-site commissioning and start-up activities.
- Develop commissioning and operating procedures.
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance.
- Travel up to 25% of the time for site visits and meetings, which may include occasional overnight stays.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current junior or senior status in an accredited Engineering program, such as Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software.
- Ability to understand the technical and day-to-day operations of a bioprocessing facility.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to perform physical tasks like climbing stairs and ladders, walking two or more miles per day, and lifting up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to work in various environments, including heights, confined spaces, and temperature extremes from -20 to 100 degrees.
