About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in agricultural production, livestock management, land stewardship, and property monitoring. You will work within a working ranch environment to develop practical skills in resource management and rural leadership. This position is suited for students pursuing degrees in agriculture, animal science, natural resources, or related fields.
What you'll do#
- Conduct soil sampling, range assessments, and identify plant species.
- Assist with daily livestock management, including cattle handling, feeding programs, and recordkeeping.
- Support agricultural operations such as crop scouting, forage evaluation, and irrigation management.
- Inspect and repair infrastructure like fencing, water systems, and drainage structures.
- Perform wildlife surveys, monitor habitat conditions, and assist with conservation planning.
- Use GPS and GIS technologies to support mapping and resource inventory development.
- Conduct routine property patrols and document observations in daily reports.
- Complete a capstone project focused on operational efficiency or conservation.
- Follow company safety policies and participate in training programs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to agriculture, animal science, natural resources, environmental science, wildlife management, or ranch management.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
- Skills in observation, communication, and problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Previous experience with livestock, farming, or ranching is preferred.
- Experience with agricultural equipment, GPS, GIS, or mapping software is a plus.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Rapid City, South Dakota.
