Title: Internship - Industrial Maintenance/Fabrication Location: Rapid City, SD, USA Employee Type: Non-Exempt About the Opportunity We are seeking a motivated Industrial Mechanic / Fabrication Intern to join our maintenance team. This hands-on internship provides valuable experience working with industrial equipment, preventative maintenance programs, welding, fabrication, and mechanical troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment. This position is ideal for students or recent graduates pursuing careers in industrial maintenance, mechanical trades, millwright work, welding, fabrication, or manufacturing operations who are looking to develop practical skills and gain real-world industry experience. Responsibilities Preventative Maintenance · Perform hourly interval inspections on plant equipment · Complete lubrication schedules and oil changes · Review existing preventative maintenance (PM) procedures · Identify opportunities to improve current PM programs · Recommend and help develop new preventative maintenance procedures Mechanical Maintenance · Repair or replace defective equipment and components · Inspect failed parts and determine root causes of failure · Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment · Replace faulty mechanical equipment as required · Support maintenance activities on: o Kilns and kiln components o Crushing and pulverizing equipment o Material handling systems o Conveying equipment Equipment Data Collection · Collect and document critical equipment information, including: o Bearing sizes o Head and tail shaft dimensions o Conveyor lengths o Gear reducer specifications · Maintain accurate maintenance and equipment records Fabrication & Welding · Fabricate and install equipment guarding · Assist with fabrication of transfer points and plant modifications · Perform in-field welding and repair work · Repair damaged equipment and plant components · Support continuous improvement projects through fabrication solutions Qualifications Required · Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability · Basic welding and fabrication skills · Ability to safely use hand and power tools · Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety · Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred · Enrollment in a Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Welding, Manufacturing, or related technical program · Experience working with industrial machinery or fabrication equipment · Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices What You'll Gain · Hands-on experience with industrial mechanical systems · Exposure to preventative and predictive maintenance programs · Practical welding and fabrication experience · Training on industrial safety practices · Opportunity to work alongside experienced maintenance professionals · Valuable industry experience to support future careers in maintenance, manufacturing, and skilled trades Apply Today If you enjoy working with equipment, solving mechanical problems, and building or repairing machinery through welding and fabrication, we'd like to hear from you.
