Ready Mix Technician Intern

Title: Internship - Ready Mix Technician Location: Rapid City, SD, USA Employee Type: Non-Exempt About the Opportunity We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Ready Mix Technician Intern to join our Quality Control team in Rapid City, South Dakota. This internship provides hands-on experience in ready-mix concrete testing, quality assurance, mix design evaluation, and field quality control practices. This position is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Construction Management, Engineering, Physical Science, or related fields who are interested in gaining real-world experience in the construction materials industry. Interns will work alongside experienced quality professionals to ensure concrete products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and company quality requirements. Responsibilities Concrete Quality Control Testing Perform quality control and quality assurance testing on ready-mix concrete productsConduct fresh concrete testing, including slump, air content, temperature, and unit weight testingCollect and prepare samples for laboratory analysisAccurately document test results and observations Compressive Strength Testing Prepare and manage concrete test specimensPerform compressive strength testing in accordance with applicable standards and proceduresRecord, verify, and analyze test resultsAssist in evaluating concrete performance and compliance with project specifications Mix Design Review & Optimization Assist with reviewing concrete mix designs for quality, performance, and consistencySupport the evaluation of material properties and mix performance dataParticipate in mix optimization initiatives aimed at improving product quality and efficiencyHelp identify opportunities for continuous improvement Field & Plant Support Travel to project sites and company locations as needed to perform testing and support quality initiativesWork closely with ready-mix operations, dispatch, and production personnelAssist with investigations related to product quality and performanceSupport special quality control projects and data collection efforts Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate testing records and quality control documentationEnter and manage data within company reporting systemsAssist with generating reports and maintaining compliance recordsEnsure data integrity and traceability throughout the testing process Safety Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and guidelinesProperly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)Participate in safety meetings and training programsPromote a safe work environment both in the laboratory and in the field Qualifications Required Currently enrolled in a degree program in: Construction ManagementEngineeringPhysical ScienceOr a related field Strong attention to detail and organizational skillsExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilitiesEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamValid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites and company locations as neededCommitment to safety and quality Preferred Interest in construction materials, concrete technology, or quality assuranceExperience with laboratory testing, construction inspection, or materials testingFamiliarity with Microsoft Excel and data managementKnowledge of construction practices, engineering principles, or quality control procedures What You'll Gain Hands-on experience testing and evaluating ready-mix concrete productsExposure to field and laboratory quality control processesExperience with compressive strength testing and fresh concrete testing methodsPractical knowledge of concrete mix design and optimizationOpportunities to work with experienced quality control and construction professionalsValuable industry experience that supports careers in construction management, engineering, quality assurance, and materials testing Apply Today If you are interested in construction materials, engineering, and quality assurance, this internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to the production of high-quality ready-mix concrete products.
