About the role#
Packaging Corporation of America is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Co-op or Intern for our Counce, Tennessee location. This position focuses on mechanical reliability and project engineering. You will gain hands-on experience by supporting mill operations and contributing to engineering projects.
What you'll do#
- Support mechanical reliability assignments to improve mill safety, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Apply predictive and preventive maintenance techniques to enhance equipment reliability.
- Collect and analyze mill data to support process optimization.
- Assist with capital projects from the initial funding request through final completion.
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to coordinate improvement efforts.
- Use software tools such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and internal maintenance management systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related degree program.
- Completion of at least your freshman year by the start of the internship.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
- Permanent U.S. residency and a valid driver's license.
- Preference is given to students currently involved in the paper foundation at specific universities or those enrolled at state or technological universities in states where we operate.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Counce, Tennessee.
- The role follows a rolling term schedule.
