State Government Relations Intern

About the role#

The State Government Relations Intern will support the State Government Relations and Stakeholder Engagement teams in Sacramento. This role offers exposure to legislative processes, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement. You will contribute to the advancement of legislative priorities and help maintain relationships with key stakeholders while working in a cross-functional environment.

What you'll do#

• Monitor, recommend, and analyze legislative developments and policy changes.
• Conduct research on relevant legislative issues and prepare briefing materials.
• Support the creation of reports, presentations, and communication materials.
• Attend legislative hearings, meetings, and events to provide summaries and insights.
• Coordinate stakeholder meetings and engagements.
• Maintain stakeholder databases and draft correspondence for internal and external use.
• Perform administrative tasks to support daily office operations.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related business field at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education toward your degree during or after the internship.
• Prior experience or internships in state or local government, legislative affairs, or public policy organizations.
• A valid driver’s license for travel to meetings, conferences, and events within the service territory.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong research, writing, and organizational skills with the ability to handle sensitive information.

Location & details#

• Location: Sacramento, California.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Work Modality: Hybrid, with an expectation to be on-site at least 3-4 days per week.
• Status: Full-time, paid internship.
