Corrosion Engineering Intern

About the role#

Corrosion Engineering interns provide engineering support for the maintenance and operation of the electric transmission system. You will assist in the investigation and remediation of atmospheric, underground, and concrete steel reinforcement corrosion, as well as direct and alternating current interference. This role involves working with engineers, field construction, and project management teams to design corrosion mitigation systems and support capital investments for steel transmission infrastructure.

What you'll do#

• Support the development and communication of new corrosion control standards and procedures.
• Analyze large datasets related to corrosion control, including mitigation scope, economic value, and long-range planning.
• Prepare and review field investigation data and engineering studies to support departmental decision-making.
• Review daily field inspection reports to ensure appropriate corrosion work practices.
• Assist field investigation and construction crews with engineering decisions and on-site work.
• Evaluate and apply new technologies to optimize maintenance and affordability.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering.
• Must be continuing education toward your degree during or after the internship.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA in both cumulative and major coursework.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• EIT or FE certification is preferred.
