Business Systems Specialist Intern

About the role#

The Business Systems Specialist Intern will join the Technology & Tools team to support the Transmission & Substation Engineering groups. This role focuses on bridging the gap between engineering business needs and information technology, helping to implement intelligent tools that automate processes and enhance design capabilities for California's electrical network.

What you'll do#

• Serve as a liaison between the engineering line of business and Information Technology, representing end users and business process owners.
• Collaborate with the team to develop business system requirements, implementations, and ongoing support.
• Define user requirements, coordinate user acceptance testing, and gather feedback for new tools.
• Perform feasibility analysis, develop project scope, and provide recommendations on project strategy and deliverable prioritization.
• Analyze equipment data from PG&E substations and present findings through desktop applications and Business Intelligence reports.
• Develop SQL queries to extract data for dashboards and reports.
• Develop data streams to enhance 3D visualization with relevant equipment data.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education towards a degree during or after the internship term.
• Minimum 3.0 cumulative and major GPA.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal direction.
• Technical familiarity with SQL (Select statements, table joins, custom views), Microsoft development tools (MS SQL Server, PowerShell, Visual Studio), and REST APIs is beneficial.
• Interest or experience in AutoCAD, PowerShell libraries, and data visualization is a plus.

• Compensation: Paid position ($23.08 – $36.42 per hour).
