About the role#
The Performance Testing Engineering Intern will work within the Grid Technology Engineering & Evaluation organization. This role focuses on supporting energy efficiency testing for HVAC systems, water heaters, and distribution systems to help advance grid reliability and decarbonization. You will work alongside senior staff and technicians to generate test data that informs California and national building codes and standards.
What you'll do#
- Support senior staff with energy efficiency testing across all active test chambers.
- Conduct unit testing and perform data analysis.
- Assist with control and Data Acquisition System (DAS) programming.
- Perform literature reviews on codes and standards.
- Assist with the commissioning of control systems and system operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education towards your degree during or after the internship.
- A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or greater.
- Interest in areas such as power system equipment testing, test automation, controls and data acquisition, and engineering analytics.
- EIT or FE certification is preferred.
- Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
