About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Pierce Manufacturing, you will assist our engineering teams with core mechanical functions. You will work on various tasks, including design, production, and testing. This is a paid, on-site internship for Summer 2027 based in Appleton, Wisconsin.
What you'll do#
- Prepare vehicle component layouts using CAD software like CATIA.
- Design, model, and test new mechanical systems that integrate with our vehicles.
- Generate engineering calculations for stress analysis, weight distribution, and performance estimations.
- Select parts and components with a focus on weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturing ease.
- Follow projects on the assembly floor during prototype, pilot, or production builds to provide technical assistance.
- Perform or assist in the testing of complete vehicles and specific components.
- Create and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECN) within our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- Update bills of materials in the Product Data Management (PDM) system to reflect product changes.
- Consult with internal departments, suppliers, and customers to find solutions to technical problems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Mechanical Engineering or a related field for the duration of the internship.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in extracurricular activities outside of academic requirements.
- Previous internship or work-related experience.
- A demonstrated interest in mechanical design.
- Familiarity with CAD systems like CATIA or Pro-E is a plus.
