About the role#
NXP is looking for an intern to join the Innovation R&D team in San Jose. You will work with experts to develop radar technologies for autonomous perception and driver assistance systems. This role focuses on building software stacks and optimizing AI models for automotive hardware.
What you'll do#
- Build and improve the software stack for radar system proof-of-concept projects.
- Benchmark and optimize AI and machine learning models on NXP hardware.
- Apply software engineering skills using custom IDEs, compilers, SDKs, and toolchains.
- Work with teams across AI, signal processing, embedded systems, and hardware design.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Embedded C.
- Experience with embedded development environments, including GCC, GDB, and IDEs.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, ROS/ROS2, and Hardware-in-the-Loop testing.
- Experience optimizing AI models for resource-constrained edge devices.
- Familiarity with AI accelerators, NPUs, DSPs, or FPGA-based emulation is a plus.
- Strong communication and technical writing skills.

- This internship is located in San Jose, California.
- The term is for Summer 2027.
- This is a full-time, on-site, paid position.
- You must be returning to school or graduating at the conclusion of the internship term.
