About the role#
This internship supports supply chain process improvement initiatives at Nucor Steel Brandenburg. You will apply engineering, scientific, and mathematical methods to existing reports, tracking tools, and automation systems. Safety is the primary focus of all roles here, and you will be expected to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
What you'll do#
- Apply operations research and data analytics methods to logistics, scheduling, or inventory management challenges.
- Build and validate optimization or analytics models using data from current reporting and tracking tools.
- Audit and stress-test data flowing through recent automation to confirm accuracy and reliability.
- Translate technical findings into business cases for presentation to plant and division leadership.
- Collaborate with logistics, scheduling, purchasing, and IT teammates to scope, validate, and document projects.
- Support continuous improvement of supply chain and inventory management processes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Industrial or Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Rising junior or senior standing.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically Excel.
- Working knowledge of a data analysis or programming tool such as Python, R, or SQL.
- Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Preferred: Coursework or project experience in optimization, discrete-event simulation, or demand forecasting.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Oracle EBS or other ERP systems, and data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Preferred: Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in logistics, transportation, or manufacturing.
