About the role#
The Safety Intern supports the safety team at Nucor Steel Brandenburg. You will gain hands-on experience in industrial safety practices, hazard identification, and safety technology initiatives. This role involves assisting with daily safety operations and specific projects to maintain a safe work environment. Safety is the priority here, and you will be expected to uphold safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
What you'll do#
- Assist with safety inspections, audits, and risk mitigation.
- Support root cause analysis and track corrective actions.
- Update and maintain safety procedures, training materials, and documentation.
- Analyze safety data and trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and team engagement activities.
- Support the implementation of proximity detection systems to improve mobile equipment and pedestrian safety.
- Evaluate AI-related safety initiatives to improve hazard recognition and monitoring.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership to promote a strong safety culture.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Occupational Safety, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Industrial Technology, or Data Analytics.
- Strong interest in industrial or manufacturing safety and emerging safety technologies.
- Basic understanding of safety principles and regulatory standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
