About the role#
Northrop Grumman is hiring Software Engineer Interns for the Navigation Intelligence and Connectivity Division. This summer internship program offers hands-on experience in software engineering specializations, including embedded software, Agile development, DevOps, and system integration. You will work on-site in San Diego, California, as part of a full-time, 10-week program during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, document, test, and debug software systems that include logical and mathematical solutions.
- Conduct multidisciplinary research and work with systems engineers to plan and develop electronic data processing systems.
- Determine user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve issues regarding program intent, input data, and output requirements.
- Develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
- Prepare operating instructions and ensure all software meets established standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field, with plans to remain enrolled in Fall 2027.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during the summer of 2027.
- U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher.
- Proficiency or experience with C, C++, Java, Python, Rust, Linux, MATLAB, and object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with tools such as GIT, Jira, Visual Studio, Vitis, Wireshark, and various real-time operating systems.
- Experience with test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and network analyzers.
- Strong communication skills with experience in delivering presentations and working in autonomous environments.

- Compensation: Bachelor’s interns earn between $21.50 and $39.00 per hour; Master’s interns earn between $30.50 and $48.00 per hour.
