About the role#
The Estate Planning Project at the New York Legal Assistance Group focuses on protecting generational wealth by assisting New Yorkers with estate planning and preventing deed theft and related scams. This internship provides an opportunity to support the Foreclosure Prevention Project through legal research, client interaction, and community outreach.
What you'll do#
- Conduct intakes to determine potential client eligibility for services.
- Assist with the execution of Transfer on Death Deeds, Heir at Law Deeds, property transfers, and Powers of Attorney.
- Provide support for pro se probate and administration petitions.
- Represent the organization at community events by tabling and delivering Know Your Rights presentations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student.
- Strong commitment to public interest law.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Superior communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation abilities.
- Professional presence and demeanor.
- Preferred majors include Political Science, Business Administration, Real Estate, Philosophy, Nursing, Communications, Public Health, or Criminal Justice.

- Location: New York, New York.
- Term: Fall 2026 and Winter 2027.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (requires in-person presence at least two days per week).
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
