About the role#
The Estate Planning Project at the New York Legal Assistance Group focuses on protecting homeowners from deed theft and scams to help maintain generational wealth. This internship provides an opportunity to support the Foreclosure Prevention Project through legal representation, community education, and advocacy. The role is a paid, full-time position spanning the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms.
What you'll do#
- Conduct client intakes to assess eligibility for legal services.
- Execute legal documents including basic wills, Transfer on Death Deeds, Heir at Law Deeds, property transfers, and Powers of Attorney.
- Assist with pro se probate and administration petitions.
- Analyze individual homeowner circumstances to provide informed advice on courses of action.
- Perform in-depth legal research regarding estate planning.
- Deliver Know Your Rights presentations and participate in community events.
- Draft informational materials for clients.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a law student.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Superior communication skills, including experience with public presentations.
- A strong commitment to public interest law.
- A professional presence and demeanor.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, NY.
- Modality: Hybrid. Staff are generally expected to work in the office or perform in-person work at least two days each week.
