About the role#
The Estate Planning Project at the New York Legal Assistance Group focuses on protecting generational wealth by combatting deed theft and other scams. Interns support the Foreclosure Prevention Project by assisting with legal representation, community education, and client advocacy for New Yorkers.
What you'll do#
- Conduct intakes to assess potential client eligibility for services.
- Draft and execute basic wills, Transfer on Death Deeds, Heir at Law Deeds, property transfers, and Powers of Attorney.
- Assist with pro se probate and administration petitions.
- Analyze homeowners' circumstances to advise on appropriate courses of action.
- Conduct in-depth legal research regarding estate planning.
- Deliver Know Your Rights presentations and table at community events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a law student.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Superior communication skills, including oral and presentation abilities.
- A strong commitment to public interest law.
- Professional presence and demeanor.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York.
- Term: Fall 2026 and Winter 2027.
- Modality: Hybrid, with at least two days per week required in the office or performing in-person work.
- Status: Full-time and paid internship.
